The short version
“So many new words, never enough practice.”
That is the short version. I’m Abdulla. I’m a data manager in Finland, and I’m learning Finnish too. I kept running into the same problem, so I did the obvious thing and built a website. AI did most of the heavy lifting, obviously. 😄
Oma Suomi is a small site for Finnish vocabulary and YKI B1–B2 reading and exercises. I made it for myself, and I’m still adding to it as I go. Some of it works well; some of it is still rough.
What’s inside
Enough to practise, not so much that it gets overwhelming.
Vocabulary
1,000 B1–B2 words across 15 topics. Flashcards, spaced review, pronunciation at three speeds, and a one-sentence Selkosuomi hint for each word.
Reading
20 practice tests: 10 at B1 and 10 at B2, with 80 passages and 400 questions. Learning mode or test mode, with a timer, bookmarks and a full review.
Practice games
Nine short games, mistake review and progress tracking. Not a replacement for real study. More for the days when a full lesson feels like too much.
Feedback
Open reading answers can get AI-assisted feedback. It is a practice aid, not an official YKI score. When the model is unsure, the answer is flagged for review.
A few honest notes
What this site is. And what it isn’t.
- Independent
- Oma Suomi is not affiliated with the Finnish National Agency for Education or the official YKI organisers. It is a small, independent practice site.
- AI is a helper, not the teacher
- It helped me build the site, and it gives feedback on some reading answers. I label that clearly. It is useful, but it is not the teacher.
- No ads, no data selling
- There are no advertising cookies. Analytics only runs if you accept it, and your learning data is used to run the site, not sold.
- Still adding to it
- I made Oma Suomi for myself, and I keep adding to it as I go. Writing, listening and speaking are in development. No promised dates; I’ll add them when they’re ready.
What’s next
Writing, listening and speaking are next.
Vocabulary and reading are live today. I’m working on the other skills, but I’d rather ship them when they are useful than put a date on them now.

Your turn
What’s the hardest part for you?
If you’re learning Finnish too, I’d love to hear what you’d want Oma Suomi to have. Is it words that won’t stick, reading speed, listening, speaking, something else? Tell me what you get stuck on.
